About Ville Tulkki

Dr. Ville Tulkki, coordinator of the SANE project, has been active in nuclear energy research for over 15 years. As the SMR Technology Lead at VTT since 2009, his work focuses on nuclear fuel behavior, small modular reactors (SMRs), and exploring new applications of nuclear energy.

Ville has contributed to several key initiatives:

  • Coordinated the EURATOM-funded ELSMOR project, addressing challenges in European adoption of LW-SMRs.
  • Led the EcoSMR project, aimed at building a Finnish business ecosystem for SMR-powered heat applications.
  • Co-innovated the LDR district heating reactor design project.
  • Represented Finnish stakeholders in international projects, such as the OECD/NEA Halden Reactor Project and FIDES2 framework.
  • Participated in IAEA and OECD/NEA expert groups on SMRs and Gas-cooled Reactors.

In the SANE project, Ville applies his extensive experience to advancing the use of nuclear energy in non-electric applications. His leadership helps the consortium address challenges and identify opportunities in this evolving field.
