SANE Stakeholder Workshop for Authorities

Publish date: 03/03/2026

In EU SANE project, a series of case study workshops will be arranged for different stakeholder groups in Finland (by VTT), Belgium (by SCK CEN) and Netherlands (by NRG Pallas). VTT started the series on February 23 with a workshop involving different authorities of Helsinki region.

The discussions covered the following topics:

  • What are the characteristics of a good small modular reactor (SMR) site from the perspective of different authorities?

  • What significance does the emergency planning zone (EPZ) have for various authorities?

  • How do the risks of different industrial facilities compare?

  • How are risks related to the use of nuclear power communicated to different stakeholders and city residents during the various stages of licensing? and many more.

Many thanks to the Finnish authorities (i.e. Finnish Supervisory Agency, Helsinki City, STUK – Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority and Helsinki City Rescue Department) for the fruitful discussions and to Helen Ydinvoima Oy for providing background information for the Finnish case study in SANE project.
